Mold Testing / Remediation

Think you might have a problem?  When it comes to mold testing and remediation it’s important to act now rather than later.  Not only do you risk further exposure to yourself and your family (or employees) to potentially very serious health hazards, with further mold damage more building materials may have to be replaced.  And the bulk of the outbreak could be completely out of sight underneath flooring, above the ceiling, inside walls, or within crawl spaces making mold removal all the more difficult.  The most extreme situations can leave a home uninhabitable and unsellable.

Professional Mold Removal

With few exceptions, inspection and mold remediation should only be done by licensed contractors with certified technicians.  We’re always in full compliance with EPA and OSHA  standards.  Each home and business is different, but our overall process is one of testing, preparation, removal, and restoration along the following line.

  • Perform visual inspections and collect test samples (when necessary) to determine the extent of the problem and the species involved.
  • Prevent the spread of spores, allergens, toxins, and contaminants.  This effort includes sest up of containment barriers to isolate the work area, using negative air-pressure machines, and continuous use of air scrubbing filters.
  • Specific mold removal methods depend on the species involved and the materials affected.  They can include chemical wipe downs, HEPA vacuuming, and dry-ice blasting (cryo-cleaning).  Affected porous materials such as sheetrock, acoustic tile, and wood usually must be completely removed.  Removal must be absolutely thorough to avoid regrowth, and often includes carpet, duct, and HVAC system cleaning.
  • Mold abatement includes applying non-toxic mildicides, and in rare cases encapsulation with a clear sealant.
  • Our skilled craftsmen are available to complete any needed repairs after mold remediation is completed. .
  • Finally, all wastes must be treated as hazardous materials, properly transported and disposed of.

What is Mold and Why Is It Such a Problem?

Mold is a type of fungus and doesn’t need light to grow. It lives off of dissolved nutrients and actually prefers the dark, growing by literally eating building materials, cloth, paper, and so on. All it needs to get going is moderate temperatures a source of moisture such as leaky plumbing or roofing, a burst washer or dishwasher hose, a tub overflow, or just high humidity in the bath due to poor ventilation.

Most species spread by releasing seeds called spores that are so small that they can’t be seen. They spread far and wide, throughout a building, floating on air currents that you can hardly feel. Most notably, those mold spores are released as the fungus is drying out and dying! They will eventually settle somewhere, and simply wait for moisture to start the cycle all over again.
